[Launched] Filter Widgets Directly From The Dashboard Interface

Ever wanted to adjust filter on a single chart - say, switching Status from WIP to Done, but there wasn’t a filter control ready for you?

Now you can! :tada:

:sparkles: What’s new

  • Filter Visualization Directly on the Dashboard: User can now apply filters to any widget right from the dashboard. No need to pre-create filter controls or open the full data exploration.

:woman_technologist: Why this matters

  • Better self-service for business users: users can quickly adjust the filter, no learning curve
  • Stay in context: adjust filters right on the dashboard while still interacting with drill-downs, cross-filtering, and other widgets
  • Less setup for builders: dashboard creators no longer have to prepare every filter in advance

:bar_chart: How to use

Hover over the action bar, click on the filter icon

Or use the table context menu

:pencil2: Note

  • Available for Holistics 4.0 users only
  • Requires Explore permission on the widget’s dataset

What filtering challenge are you most excited to solve with this feature? Let us know in the comments!

Hi everyone,

This capability has now been officially released! :tada:

You can now apply filter to your widget directly on the dashboard, without needing to open the Explore modal. This should make it much quicker and smoother to adjust your visualizations.

We look forward to your feedback once you’ve had a chance to try it!

This is pretty interesting. I may have an opportunity to set this up this fall.

On a related note, is there guidance to picking a default filter setting based on the logged in user? I tried making user_attributes for this purpose but didn’t wire it up quite right. See question here:

It’s not row level restrictions, just trying to get the user closer to their data with fewer clicks.

I like this direction of development.
