Advanced conditions

It is currently possible to set a condition which refers to Top X of a value based on another value (which is great).

However, it would be really useful to be able to set other fields based on other fields e.g:

Show order values only on or after a certain date held on a field - rather than manual entry

In addition it would be great to be able to introduce more sophisticated logic e.g. a dimension contains x OR y OR is null.

Looker introduced custom filtering which was really helpful, it would be amazing to be able to have this sort of functionality https://docs.looker.com/exploring-data/creating-looker-expressions

Hi @Alex_H,
Could you share more about the case where you want to set a condition for a field based on another field? As in what data question do you want to answer, and what would the expected result be?

Also, regarding the OR logical operator, this is indeed a valid use case and we are actively looking into this. :+1:t2:
Please also share if you want to use this operator in dashboard filters or report conditions? And what exact question do you want to answer here?

Hi - say we wanted a date filter not set to an absolute date but rather to ensure the date was after a certain date held on another dimension e.g. give me sales to all customers after or before they had used a certain offer - in this case the date differs by customer.

I’ve got your case here, @Alex_H,
This is interesting and quite valid. Will definitely note down these advanced use cases for our filters.

By the way, we are actively looking into revamping our Holistics expression. Though this is quite early to promise anything, we intend for it to enhance our filter functionality.
Will keep you posted on any updates! Cheers :beers:

Hi @Alex_H,

Thank you for being patient with us. We are excited to announce that a new feature called Condition Group has just been released to help you solve this “a dimension contains x OR y OR is null" use case. What’s more… it even lets you nest “AND”, “OR” conditions into groups.

Check out our Release Note here and give it a try. And don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any feedback or question

Cheers,
Phuong.
