Include Custom AQL Dimensions in Validation API or Report Validator

Hi Holistics Team,

We have been getting a lot of value out of the Project Validation API and Report Validator features as a part of our development workflow. One issue we have occasionally run into is around custom AQL fields included in 3.0 Dashboards.

While re-scoping our data models (ex. removing unused fields), we use the validation API to ensure any field references impacted are identified and resolved before modeling changes are published. This works well for Canvas Dashboards and fields used in more standard dimensions and measures in 3.0 Dashboards. We have run into an issue a couple of times where the only use case for a field we are updating on the modeling side is within a custom AQL field, which is not currently caught systematically.

Would it be possible to include custom dimensions and measures in the scope for this API validation?

Thanks for your sharing.

For canvas dashboard, I’ve forwarded this to our product team and added it to our backlog to support the validation for the AQL field definition.

For 3.0 dashboards, because our main focus is on canvas dashboard, we won’t add new feature for it.

I appreciate the Holistics team considering this for Canvas Dashboards and understand the prioritization for legacy dashboards. I will circle back with our team to look at migrating some of our more commonly used dashboards from legacy to canvas where stability is critical.
