It would be great if Canvas Dashboard filters had a description that could show up in an info tip just like on widgets! I want to be able to give a user more guidance than reasonably fits in the name of the filter. For now, I may use a text widget but an info tip would be much slicker.

I completely agree. Some description/annotation to each filter would be a handy addition.
I have added it to our product backlog. Will surely reach out when there’s an update.
