[Beta] Email Subscriptions in Embedded Analytics 📬

Hi everyone ,
We know that keeping end-users engaged with data is one of the biggest challenges in embedded analytics. For many of your customers, logging into a dashboard every day isn’t part of their routine. This feature is designed to drive higher engagement by delivering critical insights directly to them. Whether it’s a weekly performance summary or a daily status report, your users can now stay informed!

How It Works

This feature is available exclusively for the Embed Portal and is not currently supported for single-dashboard embedding.
Here is how you can set it up:

  • User Identity: Pass a unique embed_user_id and the user’s subscription_email through your embed payload.
  • Enable Permissions: Admins must explicitly toggle on dashboard export and data subscription permissions within the portal settings.
  • User Setup: Once active, your users will see a new “Subscribe” option in the dashboard toolbar.
  • Secure & Scalable: The feature uses cached User Attributes to strictly enforce Row-Level Permissions (RLP), ensuring users only receive data they are authorized to see. All deliveries run on a dedicated Embed Queue to maintain high performance.

Key Highlights

  • Frictionless Insights: Users can set up automated schedules in seconds to receive reports in their inbox.
  • Flexible Formats: Supports attachments in PNG, PDF, Excel (Formatted/Raw), and CSV.
  • Admin Governance: We’ve included a management UI for admins to monitor, edit, or delete user schedules and set frequency limits.
  • Personalized Schedules: Users can apply dashboard filter overrides to ensure their emailed reports are tailored to their specific needs.

What’s Next?

This initial launch focuses on the “Subscribe-only” model—sending reports directly to the user’s verified email—to ensure the highest security and simplest implementation.
Moving forward, we’ll be looking at your feedback to prioritize future enhancements, such as:

  • Data Alerts: Triggering emails based on specific data conditions.
  • Additional Destinations: Expanding delivery to Slack or cloud storage like S3 and Google Drive.
  • Expanded Recipients: Supporting the ability to send reports to other email addresses beyond the subscriber’s own.
