Allow explorers or viewers to create data schedules

Hi,

Plenty of business users might want to create their own schedules for reports. Making them an Analyst seems extreme. Would it be possible to adjust the permissions so that a broader set of users can schedule reports?

Looker has quite fine grained permissions for email scheduling.

Cheers!

hi @olammas Nice to e-meet you

While business users can’t create their own schedules yet, we think it’s a cool request and we want to dig deeper into it:

  1. Why do you want to allow them to schedule their reports? Are there any use cases they can’t solve without this ability?
  2. What do you think about the security risk if we let business users set up their own report schedules? For example, they could accidentally send data to someone without the right access.
  3. Are you worried about the number of database queries piling up? Allowing business users to create schedules on their own could mean an uptick in queries hitting your database.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi @di.hoang  !

For this feature we’re only considering email schedules to other Holistics users, not external emails. For this internal use case I would expect the scheduling restrictions to match the dashboard’s restrictions.

I don’t have too many concerns about query volume. We keep a close eye on this.

Thanks!
