# Column Totals: Data Table vs. Pivot Table

Hello! I’ve been experimenting with the Column Totals in Data Tables (sum and average) and in Pivot Tables. I would love to be able to use the Pivot Table style of totals on standard Data Tables.

Column 1: revenue → Total is expected to be the sum  
Column 2: list price sold → Total is expected to be a sum  
Column 3: discount % → Total is expected to be 1 - (total revenue/total list price sold)

We can’t always use Pivot Tables to get these types of responsive totals because we sometimes need row numbers and sometimes don’t want the layered/nested effect the Pivot Tables get sometimes.

Hi @Becca_Perry

Thank you for sharing your use case. It makes much better business sense that “discount %” equals 1 - (total revenue/total list price sold) instead of the sum of all individual discount %.

We actually already have a backlog for table improvements. One task will be to let users choose to display the table summaries in a more meaningful way. We’ll keep you updated once we’ve drafted a solution for this.
